Yehuda Lancry

Yehuda Lancry ( Hebrew יהודה לנקרי, Born September 25, 1947 in Boujad , Morocco ) is an Israeli politician and diplomat .

Lancry grew up in Boujad and Casablanca . In 1965 his family emigrated to Israel, where they settled in Nahariya . From 1966 to 1970 he served in the Israel Defense Forces and was an aircraft mechanic in the Israeli Air Force . He studied French literature at the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis . There he received his master's degree in 1980 and his PhD in 1986 . From 1988 to 1992 Lancry was a visiting lecturer in French literature at the University of Haifa .

Lancry began his political career as Mayor of Shelomi from 1983 to 1992. From 1991 to 1992 he served as chairman of the Second Israeli Broadcasting Authority . In 1992 he was appointed Israel's ambassador to France . He held this office until 1995. In 1996 he was elected for Likud in the Knesset . There he was, among other things, Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the Ethics Committee. In the 1999 elections he was unable to defend his mandate. Instead, he became the new Israeli ambassador to the UN, which he remained until 2002.

Yehuda Lancry is married and has two sons.
