The Landauer house in Krumbach

The Landauer House is a former Jewish house in Hürben , the eastern part of Krumbach , which today houses the costumes research and advice center of the Swabian district . The house is named after the horse dealer Raphael Löw Landauer.

location

The building is located at what has always been the busy intersection where the road to Augsburg ( B 300 ) meets the road ( B16 ) from Günzburg to Mindelheim . In the past, the house together with the Adlerbrauerei inn (→ see: List of architectural monuments in Krumbach (Swabia) : Augsburger Straße 40) and the Rixner House (→ Hürbener Straße 32) formed the center of the village of Hürben, which was independent until 1902.

Building description

The Landauer House, a saddle roof building, was built in 1797 as a residential building. The special feature of this, as in all former Judenhäuser Hürbens existing Zwerchhaus ( sukkah gable ) is that the mechanism that during the Tabernacles served to open the roof, is still partly present. Some elements of the facade are reminiscent of the Jewish houses that were built by Joseph Dossenberger , who died in the year of construction . Due to its state of preservation, together with the Rixner House and the building of the Central Swabian Museum of Local History (→ Heinrich-Sinz-Straße 5 ), it is an outstanding example of the Jewish houses in Swabia .

Before the renovation, which took place in 1997-99, the structure of the building was in serious danger. Since this very extensive renovation, the house has housed the costume research and advice center for the Swabian district .
