history

The President of the LAGB, Kurt Schnieber

The State Office for Geology and Mining was founded on January 1, 2001 on the basis of a resolution by the Saxony-Anhalt state government of November 27, 2001 on the merger of the Halle and Staßfurt mining offices with the State Geological Office of Saxony-Anhalt. The office is based in Halle . Further branch offices are located in Magdeburg , Halle and Staßfurt.

The President of the State Office is Kurt Schnieber . The LAGB is divided into two specialist departments - geology and mining - and a department for central tasks. In 2014 it became known that the Staßfurt Mining Authority would be dissolved in the medium term and merged with the Halle Mining Authority.

tasks

The State Office for Geology and Mining collects, evaluates and prepares all specialist information about the nature of the geological subsurface. One of the most important tasks is the mapping of the subsurface as part of the geological survey . User-related geological , hydrogeological , soil and raw material maps are created from the terrain and archive data . In addition to analog and digital cards, the State Office maintains geographic information systems , the Landesbohrdatenbank, the soil and raw materials information system Subrosions - and the Geotopkataster ago. The geological specialist data are made available to the public using web-based, interactive maps.

The state office advises the administration and the public on issues relating to the development of geothermal energy , raw materials and groundwater and evaluates subsurface and geohazards . The authority provides technical assistance with the identification, maintenance and care of geological objects worthy of protection.

The LAGB oversees around 220 stone and earth operations, 27 lignite mining operations , 24 underground mining operations, as well as natural gas and brine production operations and underground storage facilities .

The State Office for Geology and Mining is the competent state authority for granting mining permits , collecting field and mining taxes and for the association, division and exchange of mine property . Authorized by a statutory ordinance, the LAGB has been assessing the dangers from previous mining activities that are no longer subject to mining supervision since December 19, 2007 . The state office maintains the digital specialist information systems for old mining and mining / raw materials . In addition, it supervises the execution of mining works and exercises the supervision of the mine separators. The LAGB owns 635 mining plans with 7525 sheets and an additional 9323 cracks and maps for old mining.

As a public authority for private and public building projects, land use and municipal development plans as well as for planned wind power plants, the state office processes mining statements.
