Eisleben Theater

The Eisleben Theater , located in Lutherstadt Eisleben in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz , offers almost a dozen premieres every season as well as a wide variety of repertoire pieces of all genres for adults, young people and children on two stages. With its program, the theater is committed to social relevance. In addition to in-house productions, the Eisleber Bühnen also offer guest performances ranging from musical theater and ballet to cabaret, readings and classical and popular concerts.

The large hall of the theater in Eisleben offers space for 385 spectators. It also has a foyer stage with 96 seats. The house has been managed by the artistic director Ulrich Fischer since 1994.

The Eisleben theater was re-founded on July 13, 1945 by Felix Ecke, who works as an author under the pseudonym Ralph Wiener , as the first German post-war theater. The Eisleben Citizens' Stage , originally organized under private law, was nationalized in 1953 and henceforth run as the Thomas Müntzer Theater . In 1960 the house took over the music theater division of the then Stadttheater Köthen .

In 1990 the Eisleben Theater was confronted with the collapse of its previous audience structure and the closure of numerous guest venues that had previously been regularly used. The house parted with the name after Thomas Müntzer , which was viewed as purely politically motivated. In view of the extensive guest performance, the then director Frank Hofmann decided to appear as the state stage of Saxony-Anhalt . The number of employees, which was 222 at peak times, fell to 70. Intensive efforts to save the music theater division and the orchestra failed due to a lack of funds; they had to be abandoned in 1993.

Due to a condition imposed in 2007 by the state administration office in relation to the district of Mansfeld-Südharz, the state stage of Saxony-Anhalt was converted into a GmbH in 2011. Also in 2011, Minister of Culture Stephan Dorgerloh suggested a merger with the Nordharzer Städtebundtheater . The carriers of both houses corresponded to this. Shortly before the conclusion of the merger agreements, the state government announced in June 2013 that it wanted to completely stop its funding of the Eisleben Theater, which at that time amounted to just under 1.3 million euros per year. The institutions were able to avert an immediate closure of the building by increasing their grants.

In controversial negotiations with the state government, it was initially possible to continue funding to a third of the previous volume. The state of Saxony-Anhalt no longer grants this for a theater, but for cultural mediation . In this context, the theater operations of the previous state theater of Saxony-Anhalt were continued by a number of employees described as "single-digit" as the cultural work MSH Schauspiel . In addition, the Kulturwerk Mansfeld-Südharz organized guest performances by other theaters in Eisleben, especially in the field of music theater. At the end of 2018, the state government corrected the cuts in grants somewhat - probably also as a result of state-wide protests - and the house has since been able to claim the name theater for itself again. For 2019 to 2023 there is around five percent more money than originally planned. In addition, in the Eisleben case, the state assumes higher personnel costs, insofar as they are caused by tariff increases.

The Eisleben Theater is under the legal sponsorship of the Kulturwerk MSH gGmbH and is financially supported by the district of Mansfeld-Südharz , Lutherstadt Eisleben and the state of Saxony-Anhalt .
