The Rhineland-Palatinate Regional Care Chamber is the legal professional representation of all geriatric nurses , health and pediatric nurses and health and nurses in Rhineland-Palatinate . The trainees in these professions can take up membership on a voluntary basis. It started work on January 1, 2016 and, with the status of a legally competent body under public law with self-administration and headquarters in Mainz, represents the interests of around 40,000 members.

With the passing of the Health Professions Act on December 19, 2014 (during the term of office of the Dreyer I cabinet ), the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament decided to introduce the first national care chamber in Germany. All nursing professional associations were in favor of setting up a chamber. Only the Ver.di union and the Federal Association of Private Providers of Social Services argued against it.
As early as March 28, 2013, as part of a survey, a majority of the participants in Rhineland-Palatinate spoke out in favor of an association of their profession. In a survey, 75 percent of those surveyed voted for the establishment of a nursing chamber, so that the constituent meeting of the founding conference could take place on July 3, 2013. This carried out the preparatory work for the establishment of the Nursing Chamber and, parallel to the legislative process, prepared the work of the founding committee administratively. The Ministry of Social Affairs convened on January 5, 2015, the members of the founding committee, whose task was to build the maintenance chamber to register all professional nurses and then perform the first elections to the Board of Representatives. Minister Bätzing-Lichtenthäler presented the members of the founding committee in Mainz with the certificates of appointment during a ceremony. Then the elections of a provisional board took place. The result of the election of the representative assembly was available on December 16, 2015. The winner of the election with more than 40 percent turnout was the joint list of the professional associations DPO / komba with 26.14 percent, followed by Ver.di with 15.82 percent.
The Nursing Chamber started work on January 1, 2016. By resolution of January 26th, the Chamber issues its main statutes and thus lays down essential principles for its work. Markus Mai has been the first president of the chamber since the election of the board in the representative assembly on March 2nd.
On November 29, 2017, at the representatives' meeting in Alzey, the advanced training regulations, which regulate the new advanced training for nursing professions in Rhineland-Palatinate, were adopted. Since January 1, 2018, this is no longer regulated by the Ministry of Social Affairs, Labor, Health and Demography of Rhineland-Palatinate, but by the State Chamber of Care and thus by the nursing staff themselves.
