District Court Ellwangen
The District Court of Ellwangen is a court of ordinary jurisdiction and one of eight district courts in the district of the Higher Regional Court of Stuttgart .
Seat and District of the Court
The regional court (LG) has its seat in Ellwangen an der Jagst . The eight district courts of Aalen , Bad Mergentheim , Crailsheim , Ellwangen , Heidenheim , Langenburg , Neresheim and Schwäbisch Gmünd belong to the judicial district ; it is one of the largest district courts in Germany. 24 judges and a further 48 employees work for around 585,000 residents.
Jurisdiction
The regional court is responsible for all tasks legally assigned to the regional courts. The ordinance of the Ministry of Justice of Baden-Württemberg on competences in the judiciary (competency ordinance justiz) of November 20, 1998 indicates, among other things, a. Copyright and trademark disputes as well as numerous corporate law disputes from the district of Ellwangen to the Stuttgart district court.
Courthouse
The court is very centrally located in downtown Ellwang in the building of the former collegiate town hall. This was built in 1748 with the help of Balthasar Neumann in the immediate vicinity of the St. Vitus Basilica . Since 1854 the collegiate town hall has been the court building of the district court of the Jagstkreis . With the accommodation of the district court in Ellwangen, the neighboring buildings of the Jesuit college also became court buildings in 1966.
