history

In 1884 Giovanni Landini founded a factory for agricultural machinery in Fabbrico . In 1910 he built his first stationary hot-head motor . In the 1930s, Landini rose to become the most important and economically successful tractor manufacturer in Italy.

In 1924, Landini developed the Landini 25/30 HP, its first tractor model with a hot- bulb engine , which proved to be very reliable and robust and was produced until 1932. In 1932 he was followed by the more powerful Landini 40 HP (40 HP, 1-cylinder hot-head engine, displacement: 14,327 cm³, weight: 3,300 kg).

Landini achieved its first major commercial success with the Landini Super Vélite model with 50 hp (production period: 1934–1954, first models still: 40 hp, 1-cylinder hot-head engine with 12,208 cm³ displacement, weight: 3,650 kg, thermosiphon cooler with fan), of which 3,200 pieces were sold. As a smaller model, the Landini Velite (production period: 1935–1954, 25 hp, 1-cylinder hot -head engine, displacement: 7,222 cm³, weight: 2,300 kg, thermosiphon cooler with fan) was offered, of which around 3,500 were produced. In 1940 the Landini BL 40 Bufalo (40 hp, production period: 1940–1950, 1-cylinder hot-head engine, displacement: 9,118 cm³, weight: 2,200 kg) was brought out.

After the war, the L-series was created in 1950 with the Landini L-25 (1950) models (25 hp, production period: 1950–1960, 1-cylinder hot-bulb engine, displacement: 4,312 cm³, weight: 1,600 kg), Landini L- 35 (35 PS, production period: 1952–1960, 1-cylinder hot-head engine, displacement: 7,222 cm³, weight: 2,600 kg), Landini L-45 (45 PS, production period: 1950–1965, 1-cylinder hot-head engine, displacement: 9,503 cm³, weight: 3,100 kg), and as the most powerful model Landini L-55 (55 hp, production period: 1953–1962, 1-cylinder hot-head engine, displacement: 11,309 cm³, weight: 3,500 kg). Landini did not stop building tractors with hot-head engines until 1965.

For all tractor developments Landini relied on the tried and tested 1-cylinder hot-bulb engines , the production of which was not discontinued until 1965. The L-25 rose to be the most popular and best-selling tractor model with the largest market share in Italy in the 1950s.

In 1957, an agreement was signed with Perkins Engines for the production of diesel engines under license in Italy. In 1959 Landini produced its first crawler tractor , the Landini C35 , and the company was also taken over by the tractor manufacturer Massey Ferguson . In 1968 an earthmoving machine factory was opened in Aprilia . From the early 1970s, Landini produced tractors for Massey Ferguson, which differed from their own tractors only in their paintwork. In 1982 Landini produced its first narrow-track tractor for fruit growing, followed four years later by the first narrow-track tractor for wine growing.

In 1994 the Morra family acquired a majority stake in the company through the holding company Argo SpA. In 1995 Valpadana SpA , an Italian manufacturer of narrow track tractors for wine and fruit growing, was taken over. A year later, Landini entered into a cooperation with the Japanese tractor manufacturer Iseki . In 1997, Landini Iberica, a new importer in Spain, was founded, and Landini GmbH was founded in Germany in the same year. In 1999, Landini opened an office in South Africa , followed by offices in Australia , Canada and the United States the next year . 2006 Landini led to the TTH the first telescopic handlers one. In 2007 the factories in Fabbrico, Luzzara and San Martino in Rio were modernized. In the same year, the tractor manufacturers Landini, McCormick and Valpadana were integrated into Argo Tractors SpA , which was founded in the previous year , and have only been brands of the company since then.
