The Landmark Point is a rocky headland on the Mawson coast of the East Antarctic Mac Robertson Lands . It is located 800 m southeast of Safety Island .
Aerial photographs and surveys of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions from 1956 to 1966 were used to map them. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named it so because it is a suitable landmark for orientation from Mawson Station to get to a nearby colony of emperor penguins , the so-called oyster rookery .
