The conservation area Frohental a 57.81  ha large landscape conservation area (LSG) between Erlinghausen and Marsberg . The area was designated in 2008 with the Marsberg landscape plan by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis . The open spaces around Erlinghausen / Auf der Sandkuhle of type B are directly adjacent to the northeast and east . In the south-east, the LSG goes to the location of Erlinghausen. In the actual Frohental , the Wulsenberg nature reserve borders to the north and a short stretch of the south is bordered by the Bauerscheid type C nature reserve and then the type A Rotes Land nature reserve . In the southwest, the Hasental / Kregenberg nature reserve and the Glindetal nature reserve also come into contact with a small area . The settlement area of ​​Marsberg and again the nature reserve Rotes Land Type A border to the west.

Legal framework

The Frohental landscape protection area was designated as one of 30 type C landscape planning areas, meadow valleys and ornithologically significant open land . In the Marsberg landscape plan area, there are also three landscape protection areas of LSG type A, general landscape protection , where, among other things, the construction of buildings is prohibited. Furthermore, 17 landscape protection areas of LSG type B, outskirts and landscape character , where additional first afforestation and also the creation of new Christmas tree cultures, ornamental branches and tree nursery cultures are prohibited. As in the other 29 type C landscape protection areas in the Marsberg landscape planning area , the LSG Frohental landscape protection area is also prohibited from converting grassland and fallow grassland into arable land or other forms of use. A maximum of two years of arable use within twelve years is permitted, provided that this prepares the renewal of the sward. This is considered an extended nursing shift . In the case of the extended care break , a minimum distance of 5 m from the central water bed must be maintained.

In the Frohental nature reserve there is almost only grassland . The grassland is mostly grazed with cattle . In the grassland north of Erlinghausen there is the source area of ​​the Frohenbaches with two spring hollows in the red sandstone . This headwaters is called Schüttenbruch and used to be a wet meadow complex. At the level of the former limestone quarry, a dry grassland valley coming from the south belongs to the LSG. In the middle area, the LSG shows a correct valley structure. There are the poor grasslands of the NSG Wulsenberg to the north and a forest area on the northern flank of the Höling to the south . In the area where the Frohenbach flows into the Glinde, there is a biotope mosaic made up of meadows that accompany the stream and poor grassland on slopes. Tall herbaceous meadows, field trees, wet meadows and fallow land, lean grassland and fruit trees are also located here.

Protection purpose

The designation was made to maintain, supplement and optimize a grassland biotope network system in the floodplains and the lean grassland communities in the nature reserves , so that animals and plants can keep migrating and spreading, and the preservation of the occurrence of protected bird species and the protection of species-rich plant communities.
