Langen am Arlberg

Langen am Arlberg is a place in the Klostertal , which belongs to the Austrian municipality of Klösterle in the state of Vorarlberg . It is particularly well known at an average of 1220  m above sea level. A. located place with just 70 inhabitants due to its importance as a tourist destination. Langen has the highest Arlberg railway station on the Vorarlberg side of the Arlberg railway tunnel and the west portal of the Arlberg road tunnel .

The development of the place itself was strongly influenced by the construction of the Arlberg railway tunnel at the end of the 19th century. After the tunnel was completed in 1884, numerous families of railway workers settled permanently in Langen. A school was built in Langen for the first time in the 1920s, and a small emergency chapel was built in 1928. In 1930 a previously built small church was consecrated to St. Theresa of Lisieux . Opposite this, a memorial was erected in 1936 for the workers who died during the construction of the Arlberg tunnel.

From Langen am Arlberg, the ski resort of Lech can be reached within 20 minutes by public bus or by car, which is why the train station, which has been developed as a modern long-distance transport stop, is of great importance for winter tourism in the Arlberg region.

Every Railjet to or from Bregenz and Budapest Keleti pu as well as individual additional Railjets to Zurich (especially in the morning and in the evening) and individual EuroNight trains stop at Langen am Arlberg station. Railjets that do not stop at Langen station stop at St. Anton am Arlberg station . This affects the trains to / from Zurich. The InterCity 118/119 from / to Dortmund  - Lindau  - Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof also stops in Langen. Regional traffic on the Arlbergbahn has been completely discontinued and has been replaced by bus routes 90/91 in the direction of Bludenz and Stuben / Lech.

Also in Langen, the Arlberg expressway S 16 merges into the Arlberg road tunnel , the longest road tunnel in Austria. The Arlbergstrasse L 197 leads through the village in the direction of Stuben am Arlberg and Arlbergpass and westwards in the direction of the outer Klostertal and Bludenz .
