Rikon is in a village in the municipality of Zell ZH , a political municipality in the Winterthur district of the canton of Zurich in Switzerland .
The village is located 10 kilometers southeast of Winterthur in the Töss valley and stretches on both sides of the river. It forms the geographical center of Zell and, together with the other three towns of Kollbrunn , Rämismühle and Zell, which are also located in the valley floor of the Tösstal , forms the most populous part of the municipality.
Rikon became known because of the Tibet Institute Rikon , a "Tibetan monastery" located above the village in the forest , which is not referred to as such, since since the secularization movement in Switzerland in the 19th century, new monasteries were not allowed to be founded until 1973 .
The pan manufacturer Kuhn Rikon is also located in the village, and became famous for its pressure cookers manufactured under the brand name "Duromatic" . The owners of the company called "Heinrich Kuhn Metallwarenfabrik" at that time contributed significantly to the establishment of the Tibet Institute.
