features

General

The beetles are 3.3 to 5 millimeters long and have a dark brown, shiny, brown-gray haired, cylindrical body. The pronotum is significantly longer than it is wide, has humps at the front and is evenly arched. It has a dotted base and obscures the head when viewed from above. Seen from below, the tip edge of the elytra is double, the inner edge encompasses the abdomen , the outer edge delimits the fall. The second tooth on the fall is a bevel tooth. It is broad, bumpy and flattened at the top. The fall falls almost vertically. The rows of dots on the wing covers do not have a row of granules in the first space between them. They are only separated by a point width. The seam strip of the wing covers is not indented. The abdomen remains straight from the second sternite towards the end. The antenna whip is five-part, the antenna lobe has two curved seams. The third tarsal link is cylindrical in shape.

A sexual dimorphism can be seen in the long-necked pine bark beetle . The male forehead is provided with a large cusp, the second tooth on the fall also has an inwardly pushed tip and there are two small cusps between the second and third tooth. On the other hand, the forehead of the females is provided with a small cusp, between the second and third tooth there are only indistinct little cusps to be found and the wing cover seam on the crash bears a row of granules.

distribution

The species is common in Europe .

Way of life

The long-necked pine bark beetle occurs on pines ( Pinus ) and colonizes the bark, mainly on the trunks of the trees. The feeding picture shows a large ramming chamber from which two to four irregular mother tunnels branch off. The interference is created in the course center line. The larvae eat their way into the bark or bark . They do not cause forest damage, so control is not necessary.
