Lanthanum (III) iodide (LaI 3 ) is a salt of the rare earth metal lanthanum with hydrogen iodide . It forms white hexagonal crystals that are hygroscopic . Lanthanum (III) iodide crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system in the space group Cmcm (space group no. 63) and the lattice constants a = 437 pm , b = 1401 pm and c = 1004 pm ( PuBr 3 type ).
