The Laoag ( eng .: Laoag River ) is a river in the province of Ilocos Norte in the Philippines . It rises in the Cordillera Central mountains near the municipality of Banna . The river flows into the South China Sea near the city of Laoag City . The Abra has a length of 73 km and a water catchment area of 1,355 km².
From its source, the Laoag flows north for 30 km in a narrow river valley and joins its main tributaries. These are the Papa, Madongan, Solsona, Cura and Guisit rivers. After passing the community of Dingras , the Laoag changes its direction of flow from north to northwest and moves towards the South China Sea. At its mouth, the river splits into two arms, forming the Monroe Island.
