Lara Comi

Lara Comi (born February 18, 1983 in Garbagnate Milanese ) is an Italian politician ( PdL ). In the 2009 European elections , she moved into the European Parliament as the second youngest member of the European Parliament after Emilie Turunen . After two legislative terms as a member of parliament , she did not run for the 2019 European elections . According to Comi, this did so voluntarily in order to be able to defend himself against the corruption allegations that had been going on against her for years.

Life

Comi studied economics at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan , where she graduated in 2005 with top marks and honors ( lode ). She then completed a postgraduate course in international market economy and new technologies at the Luigi Bocconi University of Economics , which she also graduated with top marks in 2007. She has been working as a brand manager since 2007 and at the toy manufacturer Giochi Preziosi since 2008 .

At the same time as studying economics, Comi pursued a career in party politics at an early age in the conservative Forza Italia party . In 2002 she became party spokeswoman in Saronno , and in 2005 assistant to MP Mariastella Gelmini in the Camera dei deputati . From 2005 to 2007 she also coordinated the youth organization of Forza Italia in Lombardy .

In the European elections in Italy in 2009 , Comi was elected to the European Parliament on the list of the PdL party , which emerged from Forza Italia that same year . There she belonged to the Group of the European People's Party (EPP) and was a member of the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection as well as a member of the delegation in the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee and in the delegation to the Euro-Latin America Parliamentary Assembly . Comi was a deputy in the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and in the delegation in the Committee on Parliamentary Cooperation EU-Russia .

Since 2013, the Italian judiciary has carried out several investigations against Comi on suspicion of corruption and misappropriation of donations. If a provisional determination still failed due to Comi's immunity as a member of the European Parliament at the time, she was arrested after being voted out in November 2019 on suspicion of corruption.
