Largo Island is an elongated island in the group of Duroch Islands west of the Trinity Peninsula in the north of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is the main island of this group of islands and is located 1.5 km west of Halpern Point .
During the 2nd Chilean Antarctic Expedition (1947–1948) the object was identified as three separate islands. This was corrected by survey work carried out by Martin Halpern's geological team from the University of Wisconsin between 1961 and 1962. Halpern reported that Chilean officials from the Bernardo O'Higgins station had previously named the island descriptively ( Spanish largo , 'lang' ). The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names transferred this designation in 1964 in a partial translation into English.
