Larry Davis (born December 4, 1936 in Pine Bluff , Arkansas , † April 19, 1994 ) was an American blues musician. He co-wrote the song Texas Flood , which was later a hit for Stevie Ray Vaughan .

biography

Born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Davis grew up in England and Little Rock , both of which are also in Arkansas. He played drums, then switched to bass. In the mid-1950s he performed with Fenton Robinson . On the recommendation of Bobby Bland they got a contract with Duke Records .

Davis released three singles, including Texas Flood and Angels in Houston . After that, he rarely got the opportunity to record in the studio. He lived in St. Louis , Missouri for a while and played bass in Albert King's band . He also learned to play the guitar; the guitar on his recording of Texas Flood was played by Robinson.

Several singles followed, but Davis was left paralyzed for some time after a motorcycle accident in 1972. A decade later he made his comeback with the album Funny Stuff . In 1982 he won four WC Handy Awards , but remained an insider tip.

Davis died of cancer in April 1994 at the age of 57.
