Lawrence "Larry" McGettigan (born December 25, 1952 in Hackney , † January 9, 1994 in Watford ) was an English football player .

Career

McGettigan came in November 1968 as an amateur to Watford FC , in February 1969 he received Apprentice (German apprentice), in November 1970 he signed his first professional contract. McGettigan made his debut on the right wing for Watford in the 1971–72 season . In his first season he completed 25 league games and scored three goals, but the club rose from the second division to the third division as the bottom of the table and set a new record for the divisions of the Football League with 24 goals scored . In the following three seasons, appearances for McGettigan were much rarer, after a further relegation at the end of the 1974/75 season , he left the club in the summer of 1975 and joined the fourth division FC Barnsley , but his membership there ended just a few weeks after his move .

In the first half of 1976 he was on a contract-free basis at Brentford FC , but a new professional contract did not come off. McGettigan played in the sequence in the local non-League football from Hertfordshire for Emeralds and the Sandridge Rovers . Professionally he earned his living as a sorter in a post office and remained active in the football team until 1993. McGettigan died of a heart attack in January 1994 .
