Larry Donnell Nance Sr. (born February 12, 1959 in Anderson , South Carolina ) is a retired American basketball player who was active in the US professional league NBA from 1981 to 1994 . Nance is 2.08 meters tall and was mostly used in the power forward position .

Career

In his 13-year NBA career, he played for the Phoenix Suns (1981-1998), who had drafted him in 1981 at 20 position , and the Cleveland Cavaliers (1988-1994). During his career he scored 15,687 points and 7,352 rebounds in 920 regular season games. He also reached 1,070 points and 535 rebounds in 68 playoff games. In the 1984/85 , 1988/89 and 1992/93 seasons he was appointed to the NBA All-Star Team. In addition, in 1984 Nance was the first winner of the newly introduced NBA Slam Dunk Contest .

Others

His son Larry Nance Jr. is also a basketball player and was selected 27th in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers . The shirt number 22, with which Nance came up with the Cavaliers, was withdrawn by the team on an honorary basis and is no longer awarded. The only exception is his son, who has played for the Cavaliers since the 2017/2018 season and appears again with his number in honor of his father.
