Laryngology
The Laryngology is the medical specialty that deals with the larynx busy and its diseases. The name is historically justified when the medical specialties ENT and phoniatrics - pediatric audiology did not yet exist in their current form and doctors with different specialist backgrounds focus on individual sub-areas of today's subjects such as B. turned to laryngology, rhinology or otology . The first laryngectomy was performed by Theodor Billroth in Vienna in 1873 .
Today, doctors from one of the two specialist fields that mainly deal with laryngeal diseases are often referred to as "laryngologists" in medical jargon as an expression of the strong sub-specialization.
