Ottokar Chiari , since 1917 Freiherr von Chiari (born February 1, 1853 in Prague , † May 12, 1918 in Puchberg am Schneeberg , Lower Austria ) was an Austrian laryngologist from the Chiari family .

Life

Ottokar Chiari was the son of Johann Baptist Chiari , brother of Hans Chiari and the grandfather of Karl Chiari (1912–1982).

In 1877 he was promoted to Dr. med is doing his doctorate. He was then assistant to Leopold Schrötter von Kristelli (1837–1908).

In 1891 Chiari was appointed associate professor, in 1912 full professor. As the successor to Karl Stoerk (1832–1899), he acted as director of the Laryngological University Clinic in Vienna from 1900.

On March 14, 1917, Emperor Karl I approved the transfer of the baron status awarded to the factory and estate owner Karl Chiari (1849–1912) in 1908, together with the coat of arms awarded in 1908, to Ottokar Chiari. The corresponding diploma was issued on April 30, 1917 in Vienna.

The Chiarigasse in Vienna, Favoriten , was named after him in 1932.

Ottokar von Chiari was married to Marie Seidl (1855–1920), a daughter of the industrialist Ignaz Seidl , and from this marriage had 3 sons and 2 daughters. His daughter Paula (1895–1977) married Arthur Boltzmann (1881–1952), a son of the physicist Ludwig Boltzmann , in 1922 .
