Ernest Finger also Ernst Finger (born July 8, 1856 in Prague , Austrian Empire , † April 17, 1939 in Vienna ) was an Austrian dermatologist .

Life

Ernst Finger, born in 1856 in Prague, studied medicine at the University of Vienna , where he in 1878 to Dr. med. received his doctorate. Finger was a student of Karl Ludwig Sigmund and Hans von Hebra . He then worked at the Prague and Vienna General Hospital . In 1883 he was appointed private lecturer in dermatology, in 1894 associate professor , from 1904 to 1927 full professor at the University of Vienna and head of the 2nd Clinic for Skin and Venereal Diseases. In 1903 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina . Finger was given the title of court counselor. He also served as President of the Vienna Medical Association from 1906 to 1919 and as President of the Supreme Medical Council from 1925 to 1931 . Finger died in 1939 at the age of 82. He was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery .

Act

Ernest Finger carried out syphilis studies together with Karl Landsteiner . Furthermore, together with Josef Kyrle , he examined the spinal fluid of syphilitic patients and made great contributions to the establishment of sanatoriums. He saw it as one of his most important tasks to prevent or contain the spread of sexually transmitted diseases .
