Ludwig Türck (* July 22, 1810 in Vienna ; † February 25, 1868 there ) was an Austrian physician, neuropathologist and co-founder of modern ear, nose and throat medicine .

Türck studied medicine, received his doctorate in Vienna in 1830, then went on a study trip to Paris, where he expanded his knowledge in his field of interest in neuropathology and later headed a neurological department in Vienna .

Through his research he is considered a pioneer in laryngology . For a more detailed examination of nerve paralysis in the larynx in Vienna, he developed a mirror for examining the larynx , which he further developed in 1857 into a larynx mirror illuminated with sunlight (the first laryngoscope ) and which he then presented to the Society of Doctors in Vienna in 1858 . There was a brief priority dispute with Johann Nepomuk Czermak about this invention , which Türck won. In the field of laryngology, he was also the first to describe laryngitis sicca .

He also worked on neuroanatomy and neuropathology . The temporal cerebral bridge orbit bears his name.
