Lasker ~ Bloomberg Public Service Award

The Lasker ~ Bloomberg Public Service Award , Mary Woodard Lasker Public Service Award until 2009 , Albert Lasker Public Service Award until 2000 honors individuals or organizations who have made significant contributions to the legislation, funding, and positive public display of medical research and nonprofit health programs. It has been awarded by the Lasker Foundation irregularly since 1946, every two years since 2000 , and is endowed with 300,000 US dollars (as of 2009). The name was changed in 2000 in honor of the wife of the founder and long-time chairman of the foundation, Mary Woodard Lasker , and in 2011 in honor of Michael R. Bloomberg and his fight against the trivialization of tobacco smoking for economic reasons.
