Laura Miller

Laura Miller (* 18th November 1958 in Baltimore , Maryland ) is an American politician ( Democratic Party ) and former mayor of Dallas ( Texas ).

Education and career

Laura Miller was born in Baltimore. She attended the University of Wisconsin – Madison and then became a journalist. She is a journalist for the Miami Herald and the Dallas Morning News, and a columnist for the New York Daily News and the Dallas New Herald . In 1991 she also became a reporter for the Dallas Observer and a columnist for D Magazine .

Political career

In 1998 Laura Miller was elected to the Dallas City Council. In 2002 she was elected mayor of Dallas to succeed Ron Kirk , who wanted to run for a seat in the US Senate . After Annette Strauss, Miller was the second woman to be elected to this position. On July 6, 2006, she announced that she would not run for re-election in May 2007.

The new mayor was the Republican Tom Leppert .

Miller is married to lawyer Steven D. Wolens , a former member of the Texas House of Representatives .
