Lauren Groff (born July 23, 1978 in Cooperstown , New York ) is an American writer .

biography

Groff was in Cooperstown in the US state born New York and grew up there. She studied at Amherst College and then at the University of Wisconsin-Madison , where she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts (MFA).

Career

Groff is the author of three novels and a collection of short stories. Her first novel, The Templeton Monsters , was published in the United States on February 5, 2008, and immediately made it onto the New York Times bestseller list. Stephen King , who had read the novel before it was published, wrote an early positive review for Entertainment Weekly magazine . Amazon.com and the San Francisco Chronicle named the novel one of the best books of 2008.

The Templeton Monsters is a contemporary story about the return to Templeton, easily recognizable as a fictionalized representation of Cooperstown. The novel is interspersed with voices from people from the history of the city and borrowings from James Fenimore Cooper's novel The Settlers , which also takes place in a fictionalized variant of Cooperstown called Templeton.

Her second novel, Arcadia , was published in the United States in March 2012. It tells the story of the first child born in a fictional community in the northern part of New York State in the 1960s . The well-selling novel received positive reviews in the New York Times Sunday Book Review , the Washington Post, and the Miami Herald . This novel was also named one of the best books of 2012 by various US media.

Her third novel Licht und Zorn was published in the USA in September 2015. Licht und Zorn portrays a twenty-four year marriage from two perspectives, first that of the man and then that of the woman. The book was nominated for the National Book Award 2015 in the fiction category and was included in numerous annual best lists for 2015. It was named the best book of 2015 by Amazon.com . US President Barack Obama named Licht und Zorn his personal favorite book of 2015.

Private life

Groff is married with two sons and lives in Gainesville, Florida . Groff's sister is triathlete Sarah True .
