Laurent de Gorrevod (* in Bresse ; † 1529 in Barcelona ) was the ambassador of Margaret of Austria to Henry VIII of England in 1520 .

Life

Laurent de Gorrevod was a brother of Cardinal Louis de Gorrevod . Laurent de Gorrevod inherited the county of Marney and lands in Bresse from his ancestors . 1497 was in the service of Philibert II of Savoy . In 1504 he was governor of Bresse. He went to the Spanish Netherlands as a financial expert with Margaret of Austria . In 1516 Gorrevod was accepted into the Order of the Golden Fleece .

In August 1518 he received an Asiento de Negros from Charles V , which dealt with the deportation of 4,000 Africans to the Spanish Empire. He sold this in several parts to Genoese . In 1518 he was present at the coronation of Charles V in Valladolid. In 1520 he became Viscount of Salins. In 1521 he became Count of Pont-de-Vaux. During his frequent visits to the court, he acted as one of Charles V Schlichter in the conflict between the archbishop and the city of Besançon .

In the spring of 1521 he reported to Margaret of Austria from the Reichstag in Worms . There he exerted great influence and supported the appointment of Mercurino Arborio di Gattinara as Chancellor. As grand-maitre de l'hotel , he assumed an important position at the court of Charles V in 1522. In 1526 he signed the Treaty of Madrid, which ended the capture of Francis I of France .

In 1527 he signed a will at his Marnay castle . He died in Barcelona after taking part in the negotiations that led to the Peace of Cambrai. He was buried in a small church in Brou .
