Lauri Vilkko (born August 13, 1925 in Rautjärvi , † October 13, 2017 in Tuusula ) was a Finnish pentathlete and army officer .

Career

Vilkko took part in the Olympic Games in London in 1948 and in Helsinki in 1952 . In 1948 he was fourth and narrowly missed a medal. Four years later he finished the individual competition in seventh place. In the newly created team competition, he won the bronze medal with Olavi Mannonen and Olavi Rokka .

At world championships he won the runner-up in both the individual and team competitions in 1949 . The following year he repeated this success with the team, while this time he finished third in the individual. 1951 Vilkko won again in the individual and with the team the runner-up title. In 1951 and 1952 he became Finnish champion.

Vilkko was an army officer and retired as a colonel in 1985 . Among other things, he headed the topography department of the Finnish Army .
