The Lebenshilfe Region Judenburg is an institution for people with disabilities and was founded in 1976 by a group of affected parents as the first independent district institution in Styria as an association . She is a member of Lebenshilfe Steiermark, which is a member of Lebenshilfe Austria .

Since January 1st, 2008 the service companies (with the exception of the restaurant "Neuer Marktwirt" and the special educational center Judenburg ) are a non-profit company . The association is a partner in the GmbH.

history

The association was founded in 1976. Ms. Helga Harb-Schmid built the Maria Buch day care center together with relatives of people with disabilities , which opened in 1979. The construction was supported by voluntary hours of work and with the help of donations in the parish hall.

In 1981, the Young Parents Initiative started a project for the early support of small children and the establishment of a special needs kindergarten in Judenburg.

In 1983, a shell on Christophorusweg in Judenburg was purchased, and the two-family house was converted into a residential and day care home in 7,000 hours of voluntary work and with support from the Styrian state government. In 1986 Governor Josef Krainer celebrated the opening of the residential building with twelve living spaces. At that time, a total of 31 people were in the care of 12 carers. Just one year later, two apartments were bought and used as additional workshops.

The Grünhübl workshop was founded in 1992. The residents are introduced to employment processes there. Today there is an apprenticeship for qualified housekeeping at the location, as well as a basic group and an alternative group, in which the needs of older people are specifically addressed. In 1992, the two workshops in the apartments were converted into real living areas for six people.

Since more and more people need housing, additional apartments were purchased from 1992 to 2003 in the immediate vicinity of the house on Christophorusweg.

In 1996 the apprenticeship workshop Project "T" (now Werkstätte Wasendorf) was founded. In a day workshop in Wasendorf, people are trained in three performance groups in the carpentry trade . The curriculum is adapted to the curriculum of the state vocational school for carpenters.

In the center of Fohnsdorf , a workshop was built in 2000 in the house of a customer, Christian Gressl, as a branch of Grünhübl. The credo is: Approaching normalized working conditions.

The largest single project to date is being implemented in the Kohlplatz district of the Eppenstein community . Here people with disabilities are trained to be horticultural and kitchen assistants. The start took place in 2001 as an apprenticeship company Gala-Bau with 24 customers, the Basale Group is also based there. Subsequently, the apprenticeship is also offered as an individual qualification measure at this location. In 2002 the expansion to 30 places followed. Today the Kohlplatz workshop offers space for 36 customers.

The Art & Service location (now the Fohnsdorf workshop) was put into operation on December 1, 2003 with 24 people. Performance-oriented work in the form of mobile and stationary services as well as sophisticated handicrafts (Tiffany work) are part of the training and employment program.

The Gresslhaus has been used exclusively as a residential building since 2004. Christian Gressl stays in his apartment on the 1st floor. Two small apartments with a garden with a high quality standard were built on the ground floor. In the same year, the Pöls residential building is opened. In an apartment building in Burgogasse, Lebenshilfe offers full-time assisted living , part-time assisted living and training apartments for customers. Independence, self-determination and personal responsibility are promoted and the residents are supported in learning and coping with practical life skills, in acquiring and expanding their social skills and in integrating into their social environment. This property was rented by Lebenshilfe Judenburg, thus taking advantage of the new Disability Act .

In 2006 the Zeltweg workshop was opened to replace the Maria Buch location . The employment offer today includes work in the ceramics workshop or weaving mill. Customers also have the option of completing an apprenticeship to become a building cleaner. There is also a basic group and an alternative group at the location.

On January 1, 2008, all service companies (with the exception of Arenablick (now Neuer Marktwirt) and the Judenburg Special Education Center) were incorporated into a non-profit GmbH, the association acts as a partner . The headquarters of the new company Lebenshilfe Region Judenburg is the central administration in Fohnsdorf, which moved from Judenburg to the Siemens building in Fohnsdorf in 2005.

In the spring of 2011, the “Neuer Marktwirt” restaurant opened in Judenburg. The integrative apprentices are trained in two variants (extendable apprenticeship or partial qualification apprenticeship) in the professions of cook and restaurant specialist.

In January 2012 the book 35 Years of Lebenshilfe District Judenburg was published . (Former) board members, parents, volunteers, employees and customers describe their experiences.

After a construction period of only eight months, the new residential building in Zeltweg was opened in May 2014. It serves as a replacement for the aging house in Judenburg. At the new location, all types of services are offered according to the guidelines of the Styrian Disability Act. In addition, all previously known guidelines for the future benefit type “old age with disabilities” were taken into account in the planning.

After the renovation of the former house in Judenburg, the central administration (management, assistants, secretariat, accounting, human resources, purchasing, public relations) moved from Fohnsdorf to Judenburg in September 2014. The former residential building also offers space for the association office, the information point “not alone” and the mobile services.

In May 2015, Lebenshilfe Region Judenburg opened a local supplier in the Murdorf district in cooperation with Nah & Frisch . In addition to the economic idea of financial independence and job creation, the idea of inclusion is in the foreground of the project.

Mission statement

"All people are born free and equal in dignity and rights."

- Universal Declaration of Human Rights
This principle of the human rights declaration applies without restriction to people with disabilities,
they are equal and equal members of society
and have a right to quality of life like all other citizens.
All of our actions are aimed at making this vision a reality.

Work and employment

The Lebenshilfe Region Judenburg offers people with special needs work and employment opportunities in several workshops . The Vocational Training Assistance (BAS) project focuses on supporting disadvantaged young people in completing an apprenticeship or training course. In the “Neuer Marktwirt” restaurant, people with poor learning skills can complete a tailored training course in the field of gastronomy.

With the so-called Anlehre, the Lebenshilfe Region Judenburg offers an individual qualification measure that is unique in Styria to become a “qualified assistant”. The theory and practice of the relevant occupation are used as training content and adapted to the level of performance of the apprentice. With the aim of finding a job, the apprentices are accompanied by job coaches on external company internships.

Grünhübl workshop

New extension of the Grünhübl workshop, in which the laundry is located

In 1992, the Grünhübl location, the second workshop of the Judenburg Region, was opened. Originally planned as a carpentry and creative workshop, business and production groups as well as support groups for basic and mobile offers were added later. The joinery was outsourced to the Wasendorf workshop. Since September 2011 there has been the option of an apprenticeship to become a qualified housekeeper.

Wasendorf workshop

Carpentry work in the Wasendorf workshop

In the Wasendorf workshop, established in 1996, people with disabilities can learn parts of the carpentry profession. As part of a five-year program, the young people are trained to become qualified carpenters' assistants and thus have the opportunity to work in a wood processing company.

As an alternative to integration in the labor market, the young people also have the option, after completing their training, to pursue a regular working day in the protected framework of the Judenburg Region.

Kohlplatz workshop (gala construction)

The sensory garden of the Kohlplatz workshop (gala construction)

The Kohlplatz location (Gala-Bau) offers 36 people with disabilities the opportunity to work or care in different areas. The workshop has the status of an apprenticeship training center, so that one is able to train apprentices as part of integrative vocational training.

In addition to the possibility of an apprenticeship in the kitchen or garden area, this workshop offers a very special therapy: the so-called sensory garden. The sensory garden was designed as a project of the location, especially the garden group, and is to be made accessible to its own customers and the public (e.g. schools and kindergartens). In the basic group, people with severe mental and physical disabilities also find individual care and support.

Fohnsdorf workshop

On the one hand, jobs are created for non-disabled adults; on the other hand, people with disabilities can be employed under real working conditions. The project is a lived, practical and required implementation of the idea of inclusion for everyone involved.
