Leberecht Immanuel Döring , also Lebrecht Immanuel Döring (born August 14, 1786 in Oberottendorf ; † April 9, 1833 in Königsbrück ) was a German philologist and Protestant theologian .

life and work

Döring was born the son of a pastor in Ottendorf near Bischofswerda. In 1800 he became a primary student at the Bautzen grammar school. In 1805 he took the spring exams there. From 1806 he studied in Leipzig and from 1806 in Wittenberg philology and theology. He received the title of Magister.

From 1809 to 1813 he took up a position as private tutor . In the years that followed, until 1819, he supported his father as an assistant preacher . Döring always remained only a candidate for the preaching office and never applied for a permanent office due to health restrictions. From 1817 Döring is also named as Vice-Rector in Freiberg. His work draft of pure rhythm is published in the same year. In it, he deals with prosody , rhythm and verse theory (metrics) in the German language.

Döring worked as a private scholar in Königsbrück from 1819. At this time his sister Augusta Theodora lived in Königsbrück. She is the wife of pastor Johann Friedrich Voigtländer in Königsbrück. Döring's considerations on prosody and rhythm led to the publication of another work in 1826, "The Teaching of German Prosody".
