The Schneekarhütte in the Penken ski area of the Mayrhofner Bergbahnen is located in the rear third of the Zillertal in the Schwendau municipality . The Schneekarhütte can be reached indirectly via the Schwendberger Landesstraße, which leads directly to the Horberg ski area in combination with an ascent with the Schneekar chairlift. Easier, however, directly via a mountain ride via the Horbergbahn or the Penkenbahn .

architecture

The Schneekarhütte consists of several buildings in pyramid shape with shingle roofs .

history

On July 8th, 1988 the groundbreaking ceremony for an alpine ski hut made of wood and stone was set at 2,250 meters above sea level, at the top of the snow bar. The first years of the Schneekarhütte were characterized by logistical and natural challenges. As early as 1990, the Schneekarhütte was extended by a pavilion, also made of wood and stone, to allow a deeper view of the Zillertal. In 1999 the Keltenbar was built next to the pub, as the pavilion was called, about 10 m from the entrance to the Schneekarhütte. Stone, wood and animal skins were used as building materials. In 2001 the guest rooms and the kitchen were expanded. This also resulted in overnight accommodations for guests and of course employees, for whom uphill and downhill every day was previously exhausting. Between 2008 and 2012 further expansions in the pyramid style were made. A number of different room categories and suites are now available, a wellness area with sauna and steam bath has been created, and the breakfast and restaurant area has also been expanded. The rooms of the Schneekarhütte are themed. There is a stone room, a cozy room, an unfinished suite.

restaurant

In contrast to most other ski huts, there is only a small self-service area . The restaurant offers upscale Tyrolean cuisine with multi-course menus . Most of the food is sourced regionally, many of them from organic farming . Beef and pork , tea and schnapps come from the family's mountain farm . At the end of the 1990s, the then highest wine cellar in Austria was built and continuously expanded.
