The small woman's mirror ( Legousia hybrida ) is a member of the bellflower family (Campanulaceae) that is seldom found in Central Europe .
description
The Kleiner Frauenspiegel is an annual , herbaceous plant that usually reaches heights of between 10 and 25 cm. As a rule, the stem is branchy and has short hairs. The upper leaves sit directly on the stem and are broadly lanceolate, while the lower leaves are more narrow-elliptical in shape. Usually they are more or less wavy at the edge.
The stalked flowers have an approximately 0.6 to 1.5 cm wide, widely bell-shaped and blue-violet crown. The petals are greenish-yellow at the bottom and lighter on the outside. The sepals, which are more or less upright at the time of fruiting, are only half as long as the corolla lobes.
Legousia hybrida mainly flowers from May to July.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.
Location, distribution and endangerment
The species grows in grain weed communities and prefers more or less fresh, warm and mostly calcareous, sandy-loamy or clayey soils. In Central Europe it is a character species of the association Caucalidion lappulae; nationwide it is a species of the Secalietea class.
The Small Woman's Mirror occurs from Scotland to North Africa and Macaronesia . To the east it penetrates to West Asia (Iran). It is a Mediterranean-sub-Mediterranean floral element. In Germany the species occurs very scattered, especially in the central and southwestern part. In addition, it is very rare. The Kleine Frauenspiegel is very rare in Austria and Switzerland. In many places in Central Europe it is considered lost.
According to the Red List of Endangered Plants in Germany, the species is considered severely endangered (endangerment level: 2), but is not particularly protected under the Federal Species Protection Ordinance (BArtSchV).
