Leibi is a district of the municipality of Nersingen in the Neu-Ulm district with 1998 inhabitants.

The village is bordered in the north by the Danube , in the northwest by the federal highway 7 , in the southwest by the state road 2021 and in the south by the Augsburg – Ulm railway line . The Leibi stream of the same name flows through the village .

The name comes from the Middle High German 'lihe' for clay or mud. Local history researcher Matzke suspects that Leibi grew out of four settlements:

  1. the area of today's Leibi
  2. the settlement on the country road (B10)
  3. a settlement on the left bank of the Leibi
  4. a settlement on the Schwabsee

The oldest mention of Leibi under the name Leibin is dated September 23, 1150. It was an exchange certificate between the Elchingen Monastery and the St. Blasien Monastery .

On June 14, 1970, citizens entitled to vote voted to merge the communities of Nersingen and Leibi. Leibi's incorporation into Nersingen took place on January 1, 1971, following a decision by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior .

In the old town center is the St. Leonhard branch church, which is a listed building and was renovated in 2012/13.
