The Scottish Football League Second Division was played in 2011/12 for the 37th time after the introduction of the Premier League as the third highest Scottish league . It was also the thirty-seventh host the third-highest football -Spielklasse the gentlemen in Scotland under the name of Second Division . In the 2011/12 season, 10 clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 match days. Each team played four times against each other team. In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted .
The championship was won by FC Cowdenbeath , which at the same time secured participation in the First Division season 2012/13 . On the ascent play-offs of taking FC Arbroath , FC Dumbarton and Airdrie United in part. Due to the forced relegation of the Glasgow Rangers from the Premier League to the Third Division , both Cowdenbeath and FC Dumbarton and Airdrie United rose after the play-offs. Relegation
Participants in the relegation games were the Albion Rovers from this year's Second Division, as well as the three teams from the Third Division , FC Queen's Park , FC Stranraer and Elgin City . The winners of the first round played in the last round for a place for the following Scottish Second Division season 2012/13 .
