Leif Forsberg (soccer player, 1963)

Leif Forsberg (born April 15, 1963 ) is a former Swedish football player . The striker who played for GIF Sundsvall and IFK Göteborg in Allsvenskan ; he is the father of the Swedish national player Emil Forsberg .

Athletic career

Forsberg comes from the youth of GIF Sundsvall, for whom his father Lennart Forsberg was already active. In 1980 he made his debut at the age of 17 for the then second division club in the competition team. In the 1982 season he established himself as a regular player and scored eleven goals this season, but he rose with the club at the end of the season. After three years in the third division, he was promoted again at the end of 1985, with 14 goals this season. In the second division he was less successful with five goals this season, but the team supervised by Anders Grönhagen managed to march through to the Allsvenskan. For the 1988 season he moved to league rivals IFK Göteborg . Still from predecessor Gunder Bengtssonobliged, he was only used irregularly under coach Kjell Pettersson , who was newly hired at the beginning of the season .

In 1990 Forsberg returned to GIF Sundsvall after two seasons, the club had meanwhile been relegated back to the second division. With 13 goals this season he was involved in the championship in the northern relay, in the playoffs against the southern champion BK Häcken he prevailed with the team. In the 1991 season he finished with the club after only one win of the season in the spring season, the last place in the table, in the fall season, the team missed the league as penultimate. In the following years he was still a regular player and was one of the club's top goalscorers, the club placed regularly in the middle of the table. After three fourth places in a row between 1996 and 1998, he led the team in 1999 with 18 goals this season in 24 missions to the relay win in the north, which was connected with the direct promotion to the Allsvenskan. After two more seasons in the highest Swedish league, in which he was mainly used as a substitute, he ended his active career in 2001.

In total, he was for GIF Sundvall in 393 championship games, scoring 145 goals. For IFK Göteborg he played 26 games in the Allsvenskan, for the Gothenburg club he scored two goals. For GIF Sundsvall he scored 14 first division goals in 65 Allsvenskan games. He also played seven selection games for the Swedish Olympic team.

After his career ended, Forsberg trained at GIF Sundvall in the youth field and in the amateur field of Alnö IF . His main job was a firefighter .
