Leila Pazooki
Leila Pazooki (* 1977 in Tehran , Iran ) is an artist who grew up in Iran and lives and works in Berlin .
Life
Pazooki studied painting at the Art Academy in Tehran and graduated in 2000. A year later she moved to Germany, from 2002 she studied New Media at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . Shortly before graduation, Pazooki was expelled from college due to a bureaucratic matter. Back in Tehran, she opened a graphics studio in which she designed book covers for Iranian publishers. In 2004 she received the approval from the Weißensee University of the Arts to continue her studies in Berlin. There she graduated in sculpture in 2007 . In 2009 she achieved a master's degree in Art in Context at the Berlin University of the Arts .
Pazooki now lives and works in Berlin after having worked in Mexico City , Indonesia and London .

Her work has been exhibited internationally; including solo exhibitions in Berlin, Dubai , Mexico City and Tehran. She has also participated in a number of group exhibitions in New Delhi , Jerusalem , Tehran , New York and Hong Kong among others . In 2007 she conceived and realized the interdisciplinary project entitled "I yearn and don't quite know what". This brought 17 artists from Berlin to Tehran, who became artistically active on site and left their works behind. Pazooki's work is inspired by Eurocentrism in art history and the appreciation of art as a cultural product. The work "The Aesthetics of Censorship" in 2009 dealt with the censorship of western art history books in Iran. In the neon installation "Moments of Glory" (2010) Pazooki shows the complexity of aesthetic relationships according to their geographical context. With the work "Fair Trade" (2011) Pazooki shows a series of works that primarily relate the role of the museum in the context of a globalized society and the tensions between the mass market and artistic authenticity.
