Lelia Masaga (born August 30, 1986 in Wellington , New Zealand ) is a professional rugby union player who plays for Counties Manukau in the Air New Zealand Cup and for the Chiefs in the Super 14 . He plays on the position of the outer three quarters . His nickname is Flash . The highlight of his career so far has been his appointment to the New Zealand U-21 national team in 2006 for the Rugby Junior World Cup in France. There Masaga had the most in this tournament with seven attempts .
The controversial decision of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union (NZRFU) to "recondition" regular international players in order to better prepare them for the 2007 World Cup , enabled Masaga to consolidate his position within the Chiefs' team, as his teammates were among the "reconditioned" players Sitiveni Sivivatu and Mils Muliaina were. Despite early losses in the 2007 Super 14 season, coaches Ian Foster and Warren Gatland showed patience and trusted the young outside three-quarters, who played a noteworthy season as the season progressed. At the end of regular time, he made a total of eight attempts in this tournament. He kept his good shape in this year's Super 14 and this time made the most of the season with eight attempts.
Masaga made his debut for the All Blacks against Italy on June 27, 2009 .
