Leo Ball

Leo S. Ball (* 1927 in Brockton (Massachusetts) ; † December 15, 2007 there ) was an American jazz trumpeter .

Live and act

Ball attended Brockton High School (graduated in 1944) and then served in the US Navy in the Pacific during World War II . After the war he studied at Northeastern University and formed a first band with Dick Johnson, with which they went on tour. He was active in the New York music scene from the late 1940s; first recordings were made in 1958 with Dan Terry ("Coca Cola Rock"). He then played in the early 1960s in Herbie Mann's Cuban Band and its Afro-Jazz Sextet, in 1965 with Bobby Vinton and the Village Stompers (with Joe Muranyi, among others ). In the 1980s he was a member of the Dick Meldonian / Sonny Igoe Big Swing Jazz Band. In the field of jazz he was involved in ten recording sessions between 1958 and 2004, most recently with Abe Silverman ( Dream Theme ). In the course of his career he also worked with Xavier Cugat , Billy May , Perez Prado , Jerry Dodgion and with Paul Anka , for whom he also acted as musical director.
