Leo Jordan
Leo Jordan or Leopold Hermann Jordan (born September 28, 1874 in Paris ; † July 28, 1940 in Munich ) was a German Romanist, Medievalist, philosopher and linguist.
life and work
Jordan studied at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg and became active in the Corps Guestphalia Würzburg in 1895 . With a doctorate in Wendelin Foerster at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn , he was in 1899 for Dr. phil. PhD. In 1905 he completed his habilitation with Hermann Breymann at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . The LMU appointed him associate professor in 1911 . As a result, he came into scientific opposition to Breymann's successor Karl Vossler . In 1933 he was ousted because of his Jewish descent. In 1940 he committed suicide in Munich.
Fritz Neubert was one of his students .
A younger brother and brother of the corps is the zoologist Hermann Jacques Jordan (1877–1943).
