Leo Pantocsek

Leo Valent Pantocsek (Pantotsek) (* 1812 in Kielce , Poland, † September 11, 1893 in Zlatnó , today Slovakia) was a Hungarian chemist and photography pioneer.

Life

Leo Valent Pantocsek studied medicine in plague , but did not work as a doctor. He worked as a chemist in the JGZahn glass factory in Slatnó. In what was then Hungary , he was the first to work with daguerreotypes in the 1840s and with photography in the following years. In 1849 he invented hyaloplasty . In glass production, he achieved great success in the production of white and colored glass as well as mirrors. So he also made glass coins. For this development he received the gold medal at the Paris World Exhibition in 1889 .

Pantocsek was the uncle of the botanist and also photo pioneer Jozef Pantocsek .
