Leo Perlberger
Leo Perlberger (born April 13, 1890 in Vienna , † September 19, 1935 there ) was an Austrian painter .
After attending the higher state trade school, Perlberger studied from 1908 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna , from 1912 to 1914 at the special school under Kasimir Pochwalski and from 1918 to 1920 under Josef Jungwirth (1869–1950). In 1917 he worked for the war graves department of the KuK military command in Krakow documenting the war cemeteries.
Perlberger made his debut in 1923 with 17 works at the exhibition of the Austrian Association of Artists, after which he took part in the exhibitions of the Künstlerhaus. From 1924 he was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus .
Because of his lung disease, he spent a lot of time in the sanatoriums.
The influences of Anselm Feuerbach and Hans von Marées are noticeable in Perlberger's works .
Awards
In 1919 Perlberger received the Kleberpreis and in 1920 the Wildschgo travel grant. In 1929 he received the Rembrandt Prize, in 1927 and 1932 the Prize of the City of Vienna, and in 1934 the Golden Medal of Honor of the Künstlerhaus.
