Leon III (Armenia)

Leon III or Leo III. ( Armenian Լևոն Գ ; * around 1236; † 1289 ) was king of Lesser Armenia from 1270 to 1289. He was the son of Hethum I and Queen Isabella of Armenia .

In 1262 he married Keran (Kir Anna), daughter of Prince Hethum von Lambron. In 1266 he was captured in the battle against the Mamluks , his younger brother Thoros was killed. Leo was ransomed by his father, who shortly thereafter abdicated in his favor.

In a 20-year marriage, Leo and Keran had 15 children, eight sons and seven daughters, of which two sons and two daughters died young; five of his sons became - mostly fighting against each other - king of Lesser Armenia:
