Leon Wyczółkowski
Leon Jan Wyczółkowski (born April 11, 1852 in Huta Miastkowska near Garwolin , † December 27, 1936 in Warsaw ) was a Polish painter , graphic artist and illustrator .
Life
Wyczółkowski studied at the Warsaw Art School a. a. with Antoni Kamieński , Rafał Hadziewicz and Wojciech Gerson and then at the Munich (1875–1877) and Cracow Art Academy (1877–1879) with Jan Matejko . In 1895 he was appointed professor at the Cracow Academy, of which he was rector in 1910/11. In 1911 he gave up his activity at the academy and in 1930 was made an honorary professor at this university.
Originally he painted historical, but later mainly landscape and genre pictures . He is one of the leading representatives of the Young Poland period in Polish painting.
