Leonard Davis

Leonard "Ham" Davis (born June 4, 1905 , † 1957 in New York City ) was an American jazz trumpeter .

Davis recorded with Charlie Creath in 1924/25 ; 1926 for Okeh Records the "Jamboree Blues" with the singer Bertha Henderson . That same year, Davis moved to New York City, where he worked with Edgar Hayes , Charlie Johnson , Eddie Condon , Elmer Snowden , Don Redman , Benny Carter, and Sidney Bechet in the 1920s and 30s . Davis, who mainly acted as an ensemble player, can be heard as a soloist with two solos with Eddie Condon's group with Jack Teagarden in “That's a Serious Thing” and “I'm Gonna Stomp Mr. Henry Lee”. From the mid-1940s he was only active as a part-time musician. Davis participated in 38 recording sessions from 1924 to 1938, in addition to the aforementioned with Charlie Skeete , The Little Chocolate Dandies , Clarence Williams , McKinney's Cotton Pickers , Fats Waller , Spike Hughes , Luis Russell and Louis Armstrong .
