Leonard Gansevoort

Leonard Gansevoort (born July 14, 1751 in Albany , Albany County , New York Province, † August 26, 1810 ibid) was an American lawyer, officer, judge and politician .

Career

Leonard Gansevoort studied law , was admitted to the bar in 1771 and then began practicing in Albany. During the American Revolutionary War he held the rank of colonel in the light cavalry . During this time he was also a member of the New York Provincial Congress between 1775 and 1776. The following year he was President of New York from April 18 to May 14, 1777. He also served as the Albany County clerk between 1777 and 1778 . Gansevoort was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1778, 1779, and 1788 . During this period he took in 1786 at the trade meeting in Annapolis ( Maryland part). Two years later he was elected to the Continental Congress. He then served in the New York Senate from 1791 to 1793 . He then held the post of Albany County Judge from 1794 to 1797. Last year he was also a member of the Council of Appointments . Gansevoort was a probate judge from 1799 until his death in 1810. After his death he was buried in the Albany Rural Cemetery .
