Leonard Krieger

Leonard Krieger (born August 28, 1918 in Newark , † October 12, 1990 in Chicago ) was an American modern historian .

Life

Leonard Krieger studied history at Rutgers University and received a masters degree from Yale University . He received his doctorate there and has been teaching since 1946. In 1957 he published his study of the “German problem” : why didn't a liberal society emerge in Germany? In 1962 he was appointed to the University of Chicago , where he taught, with a three-year break at Columbia University , until his retirement in 1988.

In 1966, Krieger was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and in 1981 to the American Philosophical Society .
