Leonard Mountain Chief

Leonard Mountain Chief (born November 6, 1939 in the Blackfeet Reservation in Montana , † March 29, 1999 in Heart Butte , Montana) was an American Native American activist, actor and country musician .

Mountain Chief was a rancher and activist for the Blackfeet Nation . For three terms he represented them as Chairman of the Land Bureau and Tribal Gaming Committee .

Again and again he was hired for films; he played a first role as a child. In total, his filmography has made 18 appearances, plus several documentaries . Best known are his roles in The Patriot and My West .

As a musician, he was to be heard as a fiddle player in numerous appearances (including in Nashville ) on country jamborees ; he also accompanied the likes of Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings .
