Leonhard Joseph von Lamberts zu Cortenbach , with full name Leonhard Joseph Franz Hieronimus Freiherr von Lamberts zu Cortenbach (* 1686 ; † January 18, 1764 in Aachen ), was alderman and mayor of the imperial city of Aachen .

Life

Leonhard Joseph von Lamberts zu Cortenbach was born in the summer of 1686 and initially received an emergency baptism . On August 4, 1686 he was then baptized in St. Foillan in Aachen sub conditione in the name of Leonhard Joseph Franz Hieronimus. His father Hermann Lamberts († 1700) had the good Corte Bach in Voerendaal acquired and was from Kaiser on May 20, 1686 Leopold I in the baron were collected. His mother was Lutgardis Nütten († before 1699). The parents lived in the Haus zum Horn on Jakobstrasse.

After the death of his father, Leonhard Joseph went to Paris in 1700, where he prepared for military service at the academy and finally entered the military. He became a captain in a dragoon regiment of the Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf .

On March 17, 1708 he married the Anna Emerenliana Josephe Baroness de Surlet († 1714). This marriage had six children, two of whom died early. On March 13, 1716 he married Marie Georgine Maximilienne Countess of Aspremont-Lynden . This marriage had eighteen children, twelve of whom survived childhood.

In 1716 Leonhard Joseph von Lamberts zu Cortenbach was elected aldermen together with Franz von Fürth , and they were sworn in on September 9 of this year. In the same year they joined the star guild, the professional representation of the Aachen lay judges. In 1717 Leonhard Joseph von Lamberts zu Cortenbach was elected mayor of aldermen. Two further terms of office followed in 1719 and 1721. After that he was represented 21 times in the Grand Council and three times in the Small Council of the city.

At his request, the old city palace acquired by Lamberts zu Cortenbach at Kleinmarschierstrasse 18 in Aachen was completely renovated in two construction phases by the baroque master builder Laurenz Mefferdatis between 1713 and 1740 . The new building then served as a model for further inner-city city villas for wealthy merchants and aristocratic families. From 1768 the property was converted into a prestigious inn under the name Londoner Hof and later became the seat of the prefecture of the Département de la Roer .

Leonhard Joseph von Lamberts zu Cortenbach died on January 18, 1764 in Aachen and was buried on January 21 in the Nikolauskirche .
