Leonhard Küppers

Leonhard Küppers ( pseudonym : Ulrich Amfaldern ; born April 26, 1903 in Kückhoven / Erkelenz ; † June 2, 1985 ) was a German Catholic priest , art historian and writer .

Leonhard Küppers in 1928 at the University of Munich to Dr. phil. PhD . He worked as a Catholic university pastor in Düsseldorf . Since 1962 he was professor for Christian art at the seminary in Essen . In addition, he was head of the commission for building, art and monument preservation of the diocese of Essen and advisor for pastoral care for artists in the Episcopal Pastoral Office. Since 1963 he has taught as a professor for Christian art, iconography and symbolism at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . From 1967 to 1983 he was also curator of the Essen Cathedral Treasury .

In addition to numerous works on Christian art, particularly iconography , Leonhard Küppers also wrote narrative works , travelogues , poems and plays .
