Leonhard Lemmens

Leonhard Lemmens OFM (born November 19, 1864 as Vincenz Lemmens in Bocket near Heinsberg ; † February 10, 1929 in Rome ) was a Franciscan of the Saxon Franciscan Province and church historian who published numerous writings on the history of the Franciscan Order.

Leonhard Lemmens worked from 1901 to 1903 as a lecturer for ecclesiastical history at the Franciscan Order University Antonianum in Rome, then until 1906 he was Prefect at the Order of St. Bonaventure in Quaracchi near Florence. After several study stays in the Holy Land , he was now (1909) an honorary doctor of theology, and from 1921 he worked as an archivist for the order, published numerous works on the history of the Franciscan mission and the German Franciscan provinces and edited important sources on the history of the order; In 1904 he was involved in the publication of the Opuscula sancti patris Francisci Assisiensis by the Fathers of the College of St. Bonaventure. From 1924 to 1929 he taught mission history at the Antonianum in Rome.
